Hurricane impact products are tested and rated in a few different ways. Each product has:
- Impact rating
- Water rating
- Wind rating
- Energy Rating
While the names impact windows and hurricane windows are used interchangeably, the impact resistance of the glass is not the only part of a window that is considered when determining how a product will stand up to storm conditions. While debris in a storm is definitely a major factor, it is important to also consider the strong winds and heavy rains that also come with a tropical storm or hurricane. This is why impact windows go through water testing and cyclic testing as well. It is important all 3 tests pass and have ratings high enough to pass the Florida Building Code.
