Once you make the decision to upgrade your home to impact windows and doors, it is time to begin customizing your products to get the exact look and function you want. While all our products offer some level of customization, some brands and materials offer more design options than others.

Material

First, a material for your window or door frame must be selected to determine how you can move forward with customizing. Wood-Clad products offer the most design options and are therefore the most customizable. Aluminum and vinyl products are also available with options like frame color, glass color, muntins, and more.

Color

Frame color is an important part of the design process. Aluminum impact windows are offered in a smaller range of colors, but still include white, bronze, silver, and some manufacturers even offer black frames. Sierra Pacific, a Wood-Clad manufacturer, offers 75 standard color options for their aluminum cladding.

Glass

When it comes to glass, there are several options that can affect both the look and performance of your glass. Low-E and tints are used to help regulate the effects of the sun in your home. Obscurity options like textures and white interlayer are used to aid privacy.

Muntins

Muntins, also known as grilles, are used to create patterns on the glass of the window. Common configurations include Brittany (aka Prairie) or Colonial styles. But, muntins can be applied in any configuration to create unique patterns and shapes to complement the overall design style.

Hardware

Some products are available with a choice of hardware style and finish color. For example, single hung windows and horizontal rollers are available with your choice of sweep locks or egress locks, depending on your security needs. French door handles are often available with either levers or a full-size handle set. Common finishes for hardware include satin nickel oil-rubbed bronze, brass, or matte black.

Configuration

While it is common for homeowners to choose “like-for-like” replacement, where existing product types and configurations are kept, it is sometimes beneficial to change product configurations. Common examples include changing how a sliding glass door operates to give better access from a certain room, change a single hung to a casement or horizontal roller to make operation easier, or change from a slider to double French doors to have more open space.
